What to do when visiting a farm

Here on Croxteth Park Farm we want your farm visit to be an enjoyable and educational experience. Following the simple rules listed below will help to keep you and your children safe. Pregnant women need to take particular care and specifically should avoid contact with newborn lambs and goat kids.

    1. Do not put hands on faces or fingers in mouths while petting animals or walking round the farm.
    2. Do not kiss farm animals nor allow children to put their faces close to animals.
    3. Do not eat or drink while walking round the farm.
    4. Do not eat anything that has fallen on the floor.
    5. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after you have touched animals, fences or other surfaces in animal areas.
    6. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before eating or drinking.
    7. Eat and drink in picnic areas or cafes only.
    8. Supervise children closely to ensure that they wash their hands thoroughly.
    9. Do wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after removing dirty shoes or boots that have been worn on the farm.
    10. Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.
    11. Parents, guardians, carers and leaders are responsible for the people in their care.

Feeding the Animals

  • Animals must only be fed with animal food purchased on the farm to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Please ensure the correct food is fed to the right animal.
  • All animals may bite so care should be taken when feeding them.
  • Animals except pigs may be hand fed but hands must be kept flat.
  • Children should be supervised closely when feeding the animals
  • Avoid giving any one animal too much food, try to limit it to no more than a handful.
  • Hands must be washed thoroughly using soap and water after feeding
